In the closing years of the 1990s Teresa Cristina stood among the leading voices of Carioca samba, sharing bills with Velha Guarda da Portela, Elton Medeiros, Moacyr Luz, and Pedro Amorim. Her work as a composer produced several sambas written together with Argemiro da Portela. The 1995 project A Cria at Planetário da Gávea hall marked one of her early appearances, and poet Chacal’s invitation soon brought her into the CEP 20.000 series. Wilson Moreira’s endorsement placed her on the stage at Casa da Mãe Joana.

From 1999 onward, membership in Grupo Semente has anchored her weekly Saturday appearances at the roda de samba held in Bar Semente in Rio de Janeiro’s Lapa district. She numbers among the artists who have helped restore that neighborhood, a district long central to the city’s samba history. With the same ensemble she took part in TV Maxambomba’s Puxando Conversa series, accompanying Jair do Cavaquinho, Argemiro da Portela, and Tia Surica. In 2000 the group performed at Teatro Rival for Eliomar Coelho’s birthday celebration, supporting Guilherme de Brito, Xangô da Mangueira, Nelson Sargento, Wilson Moreira, and other revered figures. That year also found them at Funarte Hall’s ongoing weekly roda de samba, where each edition featured a different guest such as Argemiro da Portela, Tia Surica, Tantinho, and Xangô da Mangueira.
