Originating with the Royal Horse Guards, known as the Blues, and the 1st Royal Dragoons, known as the Royals, the Band of the Blues and Royals resulted from the 1969 merger of two ensembles linked to separate branches of the British Army, each originally formed in 1661. The unit appears both mounted and on foot, and alongside its Army duties and concert appearances it has issued occasional recordings, among them the British-themed 2003 albums Forever England: A Musical Journey Around the Country and London: A Musical Journey Around the Capital. Silva Screen Records issued High School Salute: A Tribute to American Marching Bands in August 2009, on which the Blues and Royals presented the standard repertoire of American high-school marching groups, ranging from Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever" to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and including a medley from High School Musical.
