Hailing from Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, the Cornshed Sisters comprise an English folk-pop quartet whose sound fuses resonant four-part harmonies rooted in folk with inventive, unconventional indie pop touches that echo Stealing Sheep, the Unthanks, Field Music, the Futureheads, and the Staves. The lineup centers on singer/songwriters Jennie Brewis, Cath Stephens, Liz Corney, and Marie Nixon, who launched their live performances in 2008 and delivered their first recording, the folk-oriented Tell Tales issued by Memphis Industries, in 2012. For their follow-up album they headed to the studio run by Field Music’s Peter Brewis, where they shaped the more pop-leaning Honey & Tar, again for Memphis Industries, in 2017.
