Biography
In March 1999 the San Francisco-based trio the Debutantes moved directly into the studio to capture their debut single, “Don’t Call Me Hillary.” Bassist/vocalist Erin “Red” Thompson and drummer/vocalist/songwriter/producer Deona Perfet had finished their first rehearsal only an hour earlier when they tracked the rhythm section; guitarist Sonny Haire overdubbed his parts two weeks later. Issued the following month, the single quickly became a regional hit.
A mutual friend introduced Thompson and Perfet at the yoga studio where both practiced. Outside the Debutantes they continue as members of Shekhinah, whose debut album Give It Love arrived in 2001 with all eleven tracks written by Perfet. Stanford graduate Thompson also appears from time to time under the name Madame Ruby as an astrologer and tarot-card reader.
