The Deep Freeze Mice, a do-it-yourself post-punk outfit, issued ten albums across their ten-year run, launching their efforts as complete novices without any formal grasp of the enterprise. Founding members guitarist/vocalist Alan Jenkins, bassist Mick Bunnage (of the Statics), keyboardist Sherree Lawrence, and drummer Graham Summers (also of the Statics) remained unchanged through the arrival of the group’s third album, The Gates of Lunch. After Summers departed and Pete Gregory stepped in, that revised configuration lasted until the band dissolved in 1989. While the Deep Freeze Mice served as his main vehicle, Jenkins simultaneously took part in the Chrysanthemums and Ruth’s Refrigerator; once the Mice ended, he carried on with the Creams and the Thurston Lava Tube. Every release appeared in limited editions on the band’s own imprints, Mole Embalming and Cordelia.
