Biography
Formed in Sydney during the first months of 2013, Hellions arose from the dissolution of prior act the Bride, its core comprising vocalist Dre Faivre, guitarist/vocalist Matthew Gravolin, and drummer Anthony Caruso. The trio swiftly gained traction inside the Australian hardcore community through visceral, theatrical live shows, joining road packages alongside Deez Nuts, Hand of Mercy, and In Hearts Wake while also appearing on the Vans Warped Tour. Their debut full-length, Die Young, was tracked in Thailand under producer Shane “Buddha” Edwards and issued by UNFD in September 2013. After largely stepping back throughout 2014, the group again headed to Thailand to work with Edwards on a follow-up. Indian Summer surfaced in early 2015, displaying greater range and sophistication by folding in hip-hop and acoustic textures. Later that year, guitar and backing-vocal duties were assumed by Josh Campiao, while Chris Moretti took up bass and backing vocals, completing the expanded roster that would track the breakthrough record Opera Oblivia the next year. The band’s strongest release so far, Opera Oblivia earned a 2016 ARIA Award nomination in the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album category. Ahead of the 2017 dates supporting You Me at Six, Hellions issued a rendition of the album cut “24” featuring guest vocals from You Me at Six’s Josh Franceschi; the single was paired with their reading of Green Day’s “Jesus of Suburbia.”
