Formed in 1976 by 12-year-old bassist Danny De Haes, the Kids emerged as stalwarts of Belgium’s punk underground. His brother Eddy handled drums while Ludo Mariman served as lead vocalist and Luc Van de Poel played guitar; early on, the quartet opened for Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. That same year saw the release of their debut album, followed swiftly by the follow-up Naughty Kids. Subsequent LPs arrived with Living in the 20th Century in 1979, Black Out in 1981, and the 1985 farewell Gotcha!, after which the group disbanded. They resurfaced in 2004 for their inaugural American concert at Southpaw in Brooklyn, issued a career-spanning anthology in 2007, and shared the 2008 Lokerse Feesten Festival bill with the Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks, and the New York Dolls.
