In 1979 a quartet from Ontario assembled the Kings, with David Diamond handling vocals and bass, Sonny Keyes on keyboards, Max Styles behind the drums and Mister Zero on guitar. The group operated in a zone straddling new wave and rock, issuing the single “This Beat Goes On/Switchin’ to Glide,” which found success on both sides of the Canada–U.S. border. Their debut album The Kings Are Here surfaced in 1980, with Amazon Beach arriving the following year. Live work continued and yielded the concert recording Party Live ’85 in 1985. An early-nineties reunion brought the Kings back together, resulting in the 1993 album Unstoppable. Because of You and the anthology Anthology One both appeared during the first years of the 2000s, while the band kept up a steady schedule of shows across southern Ontario and the northern United States.
