Biography
In 1964 the Lancastrians entered the studio for the first time to record a cover of Gale Garnett’s million-seller ‘We’ll Sing In The Sunshine’, but Shel Talmy’s polished production could not lift the agreeable reading beyond the bottom end of the UK Top 50. The band’s light, somewhat faceless approach surfaced again on ‘Let’s Lock The Door (and Throw Away The Key)’ (1965), originally cut by Jay And The Americans, and on ‘The World Keeps Going Round’ (1966), a song supplied by the Kinks, another act under Talmy’s wing. Session guitarist Jimmy Page, already in heavy demand, contributed to nearly all of the Lancastrians’ released sides. Once successive singles failed to chart, Talmy’s interest cooled and the group disbanded.
