Following the dissolution of Parker & Lily, P.L. Noon—also recognized as Parker Noon—assembled the haunting, lo-fi noise-drenched Low Lows, taking the name from his former band's concluding release. Sound engineer Daniel Rickard, handling guitar, organ, and bass, and drummer Jeremy Wheatley, each of whom had participated in Parker & Lily's last recording, remained alongside Noon in the new project. September 2006 brought the release of Fire on the Bright Sky, while Shining Violence appeared as the second full-length album in 2008. Persistent shifts in personnel, encompassing a sometimes 14-piece touring band, caused repeated postponements of a third album until 2014, when Noon, now recording as Monk Parker, declared the ensemble's rebranding under the same name. How the Spark Loves the Tinder marked their debut album the next year.
