Biography
The relationship between Elsie Jo Miller and Mildred Wages was that of sisters-in-law, since Elsie had married Mildred’s brother, the guitarist Roy Miller. The three briefly performed together as the Miller Trio and auditioned for Sun Records in 1954. Producer Sam Phillips expected the Millers’ vocal harmonies, supported by Stan Kesler’s steel guitar solos and Quinton Claunch’s percussive electric guitar, to generate substantial record sales. No hit materialized, however. When Phillips declined to issue the group’s 1957 recording of the R&B song “Got You on My Mind,” the Sisters disbanded, after which Elsie Jo became an active participant in the Pentecostal Church.
