Biography
After departing the U.K. goth-rock outfit Fields of the Nephilim late in 1991 and retaining ownership of the band name, vocalist Carl McCoy observed his ex-colleagues attempt to continue under the Rubicon banner before that effort collapsed. In reality he had already begun laying down demos for an unnamed new venture, and once guitarist Paul Miles, bassist/programmer Cian Houchin, and drummer Simon Rippin came aboard, the project was revealed as Nefilim via the 1995 single “Xodus.” A follow-up single, “Penetration,” arrived the next year, succeeded by the sole Nefilim album, Zoon, whose sound merged goth, metal, and industrial textures. The record received markedly less attention than McCoy’s earlier work, prompting him, after several years of reconciliation, to re-form Fields of the Nephilim with his original colleagues and effectively retire the Nefilim moniker. In the interim Miles and Rippin launched Sensorium, while Houchin became a member of Saints of Eden.
