Biography
In 1963 Harvey Fuqua joined forces with Tony Churchill to launch the Nite-Liters in Louisville. Growth of the ensemble to seventeen pieces, comprising two vocal units plus an instrumental core, led to its rebranding as New Birth, Inc. Founding participants included Churchill along with Austin Lander, James Baker, Robert Jackson, Leroy Taylor, and Robin Russell, while Ben Boxtel, Roger Voice, and James Hall joined afterward. The act placed two modest instrumental singles on RCA during 1971 and 1972, one of them the track "K-Jee," which climbed into the R&B Top 20.
