Biography
Among Mick Collins' various endeavors, the Screws stand out for their particularly punk-oriented approach. Despite incorporating the blues, garage, soul, and R&B elements familiar from his other work, the group delivers a more abrasive and forceful sonic character. During 1997, Epitaph-affiliated Red Aunts traveled to Detroit, enlisting Mick Collins to produce their album Ghetto Blaster. On a whim, the band arranged for Collins to perform a duet alongside vocalist and guitarist Terri Wahl, which sparked the concept of forming the Screws in both musicians' minds. Together, Collins and Wahl recruited Dan Brown along with Marty Moore to handle the rhythm section; this prefabricated pair had previously collaborated with '68 Comeback and Royal Trux. Although the Screws function mainly as a secondary undertaking, the ensemble has performed in distant locations including Japan. Hate Filled Classics appeared via In the Red during 1999, followed by Shake Your Monkey two years later.
