Biography
Hailing from Columbia, SC, The Sequence brought together Angie Brown Stone, Cheryl Cook, and Gwendolyn Chisolm. The trio recorded for Joe & Sylvia Robinson's Sugarhill Records label, scoring success with "Funk You Up" in early 1980, the summer 1981 single "Funky Sound (Tear the Roof Off)"—a remake of Parliament's 1976 gold single "Tear the Roof Off the Sucker"—and "I Don't Need Your Love (Part One)" in spring 1982. Both of their charting LPs carried the title The Sequence. Angie Stone delivered lead vocals on Vertical Hold's 1993 Top Twenty R&B hit "Seems You're Much Too Busy" and earned a gold single with "There's No More Rain in This Cloud," drawn from her 1999 gold album Black Diamond.
