Formed as a five-piece ensemble, The Shooters brought together Walt Aldridge (born 12 November 1955 in Florence, Alabama, USA; guitar and vocals), Gary Baker (born 8 August 1952 in Niagara Falls, New York, USA; bass), Barry Billings on guitar, Chalmers Davis on keyboards, and Michael Dillon on drums. During the late 1980s the group scored several US country successes, among them the singles ‘They Only Come Out At Night’, ‘Tell It To Your Teddy Bear’ and ‘Borderline’. Their recordings blended an array of musical styles, and one of those projects, Solid As A Rock, was tracked at Muscle Shoals.

Aldridge maintains an active career as a studio musician, producer, and tunesmith. Davis likewise works as a session player and has accompanied Little Richard on the road. Baker’s catalog of compositions has earned numerous honors. Written by Baker, the song ‘I Swear’ became a major success for John Michael Montgomery, earning a Grammy for Best Country Song as well as Best R&B Vocal, ASCAP’s Song Of The Year designation, and Billboard’s number 1 Country Song accolade in 1994. By the middle of that decade Baker had joined forces with fellow songwriter Frank J. Myers to create the duo Baker And Myers.
