Biography
Established in 1993, The Source emerged as an adaptable Norwegian jazz collective initiated by saxophonist Trygve Seim, trombonist Øyvind Brække, and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen. Its perpetually changing roster has prompted partnerships with performance artists, poets, DJs, classical ensembles, and rock groups, all pursued beneath the guiding principle of collective improvisation. Bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten joined for the 1995 release of Olemanns Kornett on Norway Music, which was followed in 2002 by the ECM split album The Source and Different Cikadas alongside the Cikada String Quartet. A further ECM recording appeared in 2006 under the plain title The Source, with Mats Eilertsen handling bass.
