Formed on the West Coast as one of the first ska acts to fuse R&B covers with reggae rhythms, the Untouchables cut sides for England’s Stiff Records and arrived with their debut album Live & Let Dance in 1984. The lineup centered on vocalist Chuck Askerneese, guitarist and vocalist Clyde Grimes, bassist Derek Breakfield, keyboardist Brewster, and a shifting roster of percussionists and horn players. After laying down Wild Child in 1985 and following it with the 1986 EP Dance Party, the group fell silent for several years. They resurfaced in 1989 with Agent Double O Soul, which featured their version of the Edwin Starr soul nugget. The 1990 live album Decade of Dance marked the band’s final release.
