During the mid-1960s, recordings of the Watson and Carlton families produced an enduring archive of traditional mountain music. Doc Watson naturally takes center stage across the releases, yet the albums never functioned as vehicles devoted solely to him. Accompanying him were his mother Annie, his wife Rosa Lee, his father-in-law Gaither Carlton, his brother Arnold, and his son Merle.
