Biography
Chanler pursued musical training at the New York Institute of Musical Art, worked with Bloch at the Cleveland Institute, spent time at Oxford University, and studied with Boulanger in Paris. He contributed music criticism to the Boston Herald and held teaching posts at the Peabody Conservatory as well as at the Longy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Polytonal textures and lyrical melodies mark his output, yet his strongest achievements lie in concise forms, where his songs remain the chief source of his reputation.
