Tom Middleton, a British DJ, remixer, and producer, first entered the realm of electronic music during 1989 when he encountered Richard D. James, widely recognized as Aphex Twin, within Cornwall, England. He took on the alias Schizophrenia and, as a pianist and cello performer who had previously studied graphic design, made his initial mark in electronica via the influential EP Analogue Bubblebath, issued by Mighty Force during September 1991. His real breakthrough arrived upon teaming with Mark Pritchard for multiple production endeavors—such as those under Reload, Global Communication, Link & e621, and Jedi Knights—which commenced in 1992 and appeared through their Evolution and Universal Language imprints. Among these, the Global Communication project received the greatest acclaim for its 1994 ambient house classic 76:14, put out on the Dedicated label. Following their shift toward electro via the Jedi Knights album New School Science, both Middleton and Pritchard pursued independent efforts alongside their joint work. During 1999, Middleton launched the Cosmos endeavor and issued the substantial club success "Summer in Space" that year on Island Blue. Although he produced no other complete albums, his output consisted solely of mix compilations like A Jedi's Night Out from 1999 and The Sound of the Cosmos in 2002.
