Biography
Operating from New York, jazz artist Tony Scherr handles acoustic and electric bass along with guitar across numerous ensembles, many centered in the downtown scene. During his teenage years he joined Woody Herman, later appearing in Russ Gershon's Either/Orchestra and John Lurie's Lounge Lizards. Tours have carried him through the U.S., Japan, and Europe, while he now maintains a home-based recording studio. Reedist Michael Blake ranks among his most frequent collaborators, encompassing their shared work in the Lounge Lizards, contributions to Blake's Kingdom of Champa, and participation in the groove quartet Slow Poke, whose debut CD Scherr also engineered. Additional partnerships include sessions with Sophie B. Hawkins and Maria Schneider.
