Biography
Toy Caldwell earned his primary recognition as lead guitarist and chief songwriter for the Marshall Tucker Band. Distinct in both character and skill, he ranked as an equal to Dickey Betts and Charlie Daniels while his strongest pieces moved without strain across country, blues, and rock & roll. Several years after the Marshall Tucker Band dissolved in the late '80s, he returned to front the Toy Caldwell Band, staging the intimate concerts that had remained out of reach for his previous group. He also completed one solo album prior to his death in early 1993. Even though the greater share of his renown stays linked to the Marshall Tucker Band, Caldwell still produced a compact yet striking set of independent recordings.
