In the middle of the 1970s the Spanish experimental rock outfit Triana came together through guitarist Eduardo Rodríguez, formerly of Los Payos, drummer Juan José Palacios, and ex-Tabaca Jesús de la Rosa. Their debut release, El Patio, appeared in 1974. The band soon began working the regional club circuit and tracked Hijos Del Agobio in 1977, followed by Sombra y Luz in 1979. During the 1980s Triana moved toward a pop/rock sound, issuing Un Encuentro alongside a self-titled album in 1981. On October 13th, 1983, Jesús de la Rosa died from injuries sustained in a car accident, an event that brought the original lineup to an end. Juan José Palacios chose to revive the name Triana in 1994, taking the group across Spain to revisit earlier material and recording Un Jardín Electrico in 1997 before releasing En Libertad the following year.
