Biography
Dancer Sibel Nefa grew irritated by the absence of any Eastern jazz dance idiom tailored to grown women, prompting her to launch the ensemble Trio Oriental during 1991. Sahirrnee and Shirinshah have since joined Nefa in the company, which keeps probing an eclectic spectrum of movement traditions via both individual showcases and collective pieces. Born into a household steeped in music, Nefa has pursued studies in both music and dance from her earliest years onward. During childhood she trained on organ and flute while also taking lessons in ballet and jazz dance. In 1987 she launched Eastern dance workshops across Egypt. The trio’s three members still juggle their stage commitments with teaching posts at a dance academy located in Brunschweig.
