Drawing pleasant influence from the Beatles' psychedelic era and the heavier rock outfits of the 1970s, the alternative pop group Tripping Daisy formed in Dallas in 1990. Its lineup included vocalist and guitarist Tim DeLaughter, guitarist Wes Berggren, bassist Mark Pirro, and drummer Mitch Marine. The quartet played shows throughout the region and entered the studio not long afterward. A standout cut from those early sessions, "Lost and Found," landed on a compilation issued by local station KDGE-FM and earned rotation there. Tripping Daisy received honors at the 1993 Dallas Observer Music Awards while issuing its debut album, Bill, on Dragon Street Records. Once the four-piece signed with Island, the label reissued Bill along with a five-song live EP and then put out I Am an Elastic Firecracker in 1995. The third album, Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb, arrived in 1998. Berggren's death from an overdose the next year brought the band to an end, although its self-titled album appeared posthumously in 2000.
