Biography
Hailing from Brooklyn, Twin Danger crafts a singular fusion of hazy, atmospheric jazz and pop. The project originated in 2013 through the creative alliance of Stuart Matthewman, the longtime guitarist and saxophonist for Sade, and vocalist/guitarist Vanessa Bley. Daughter of visual artist Carol Goss and jazz pianist Paul Bley, Vanessa immersed herself in classical piano studies while growing up in upstate New York. After becoming self-taught on guitar and bass, she redirected her focus from classical repertoire toward jazz improvisation and singing. While later attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in N.Y.C., she started presenting her own songs across multiple local venues. During that same time she worked with Estonian pop artist Kerli, who connected her with Matthewman. Upon recognizing their shared eclectic tastes in jazz and rock, the pair began performing and writing together. Twin Danger issued their debut self-titled album on Universal in 2015.
