Fronted by indie rock vocalist Sherry Fraser, Two Ton Boa refines its personal obsessions through enigmatic, heartache-driven words while shaping a tuneful sonic approach that echoes Sleater-Kinney. Hailing from Olympia, WA, the group features Fraser’s elevated command of oboe and English horn alongside her work on bass, piano, and organ. Drummer Dan Rieser and ex-Fitz of Depression bassist Brian Sparhawk stand beside her, with Rachel Carns and Radio Sloan rounding out the rhythm section. Marcy Playground, admirers of the band, recorded a version of Two Ton Boa’s “Comin’ Up from Behind” for the Cruel Intentions soundtrack and notched a modest success with the fittingly named track “Sherry Fraser” on their self-titled 1997 debut. Two Ton Boa documented its languid, swinging arrangements and coolly precise lyrics on a self-titled debut issued by Kill Rock Stars in fall 1999. Nearly seven years passed before the group delivered its follow-up, the first proper full-length Parasiticide, produced by labelmate John Congleton of the Paper Chase.
