Biography
Emerging from Colombia, the alternative/metal group Ultrágeno first appeared onstage during May 1996 while still operating under the moniker La Sopita. Throughout 1997 the ensemble took part in Bogota's Rock Al Parque festival, sharing bills with A.N.I.M.A.L., the Chilean funk-rock band Chancho en Piedra, Control Machete, and additional acts. That same year brought a recording contract with independent label Hormiga Loca, which resulted in the band's debut album being tracked in 1998 under the supervision of producer Julián Silva. A year later Ultrágeno contributed the track "Nuestra Fe" to the Argentinean Soda Stereo tribute project titled Tributo Bizarro a Soda Stereo: Gracias Totales. Shock magazine subsequently named the self-titled album Best Independent Album.
