ChocQuibTown

Originating in Quibdó, the capital of Colombia’s Chocó region, the Afro-Colombian hip-hop group Choc Quib Town earned widespread critical praise after issuing their first album, Somos Pacífico, on an independent basis. The ensemble, built chiefly around rappers Tostao, Goyo, and Slow together with supporting musicians, channels a tropical style of hip-hop. Their debut full-length arrived in 2006 through independent channels as Somos Pacífico. The recording later received a London remaster and resurfaced in 2007 on the Polen label. Recognition continued to build in 2008, bringing a pair of Premios Shock nominations, when the band issued the three-track EP El Bombo.
