As one of Rufus Thomas' numerous gifted offspring, Vaneese Thomas attained considerable prominence in the late '80s through her work as a solo vocalist for Geffen. The self-titled debut album Vaneese Thomas yielded two Top 20 R&B singles, "Let's Talk It Over" and "(I Wanna Get) Close To You," during 1987. Although its successor failed to replicate that level of achievement, Thomas stayed active into the early '90s by supplying session vocals for Lenny White, Bob James, Carl Anderson, Freddie Jackson, Beau Williams, Melba Moore, and Sarah Dash.
