Biography
In 1980, Vaughan Mason & Crew issued the disco/funk track "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll" on Brunswick, where it reached the Top Five of the U.S. R&B chart and supplied the name for the act’s sole album. Brunswick next put out two additional singles by the group, “Roller Skate” and “Jammin’ Big Guitar,” yet neither matched the chart performance of the earlier hit. Mason subsequently collaborated with Butch Dayo and Raze. Several rap recordings drew samples from “Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll,” among them Digital Underground’s “Doowutchyalike,” Heavy D’s “Black Coffee,” De La Soul’s “Cool Breeze on the Rocks,” and Redman’s “Slide and Rock On.”
