Veil sought to transplant the metallic hardcore sound that had emerged in the 1990s through bands such as Snapcase, Quicksand, Turmoil, and Gorilla Biscuits into the Hannover, Germany music community, where the style had remained largely unknown. The band formed in 1994 with Raoul Festante on vocals, Nils Nordmann on guitar, Florian Schul on drums, and Jens Lauterbach on bass. Shortly thereafter they issued two EPs via Holland’s Threesome Records, and these were followed in 1996 by the full-length album The Burden of Life. During the subsequent year Veil completed two European tours, one including performances with 108 and another on which they opened for Hazard, while a 1997 compilation titled The Works gathered material from their first two 7-inch singles plus additional tracks. The group’s third album, Words Again Nothing, appeared on Century Media Records in 1998.
