Originating in Leicester, England, the enigmatic Stevie Vibronics made his first public appearance during the Egg Experience '97 events, where his cryptic performance style prompted Zion Train to recruit him as an arranger. Early explorations involved home-based music programming that yielded dub textures later pressed onto dub plates destined for sound-system play. Attendance at Jah Shaka and Abashanti events supplied his principal stylistic influences. Once sequenced production emerged in the 90s, he forged a digital dub aesthetic whose first notable expression was “Universal Love,” a track especially embraced by the Abashanti crew. Collaborative work with Zion Train yielded the single “Jah Light, Jah Love,” which gained traction across the UK roots circuit and opened the door to a joint project with Jah Free. The latter’s reputation for delivering powerful basslines made Vibronics a natural counterpart. Together they appeared at multiple dub conferences throughout Europe; drawing inspiration from Winston Edwards, the original “Dub Conference” promoter, the pair committed their material to tape as Outernational Dub Conference Volume One. Widely hailed as “the Roni Size of reggae,” Vibronics routed his fresh dubs through an Atari and blended them in real time onstage via his Soundcraft desk.
