Formed just ahead of the Summer of Love, the harmony duo Warm Sounds paired Barry Husband—also billed as Barry Younghusband, a veteran of Tuesday's Children on guitar, bass, and vocals—with Denver Gerrard on guitar and vocals. Their first outing, the psychedelic-pop standout “Birds & Bees,” appeared on Deram Records, the forward-looking subsidiary of English Decca, climbed to number 27 on the British national chart, and reached number one on the influential pirate station Radio London; no later release matched that impact. A second Deram single, “Nite Is A Comin',” went nowhere on the charts, and the move to Immediate Records produced only the overlooked “Sticks And Stones b/w Angeline.” Their style echoed that of Twice As Much, though the Warm Sounds never recorded any Rolling Stones compositions. By the close of their partnership the pair were exploring reversed tapes and densely overdubbed psychedelic textures. Once the group ended, Husband and Candy John Carr—the drummer who sometimes augmented the Warm Sounds—entered Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, then continued together into Donovan’s band Open Road. Carr also played with Junior’s Eyes, while Gerrard, credited as Denny Gerrard, released the solo album Sinister Morning on Decca’s mid-price Nova label.
