Biography
Christian rockers Whitecross came together in Chicago during 1986 and put out their self-titled debut LP the following year. Lineup instability beset the band almost immediately, yet vocalist Scott Wenzel and guitarist Rex Carroll stayed on as the only steady members across its history. A 1988 trek supporting CCM favorite Steve Taylor broadened Whitecross’ audience considerably, prompting the quick release of their sophomore effort, Hammer and Nail. European and South American dates came next in the wake of the group’s third album, the Dove Award-winning Triumphant Return, while 1991’s In the Kingdom earned Dove recognition as well. Following 1992’s High Gear, Whitecross paused their intense road schedule and remained inactive until Unveiled surfaced two years afterward; Equilibrium arrived in 1995, though the band entered hiatus once 1996’s Flytrap appeared.
