Wolfgang Ambros, an Austrian singer/songwriter who helped pioneer AustroPop, rose to become a folk-rock mainstay in his native country through both his own material and his renditions of songs by Bob Dylan and Tom Waits in particular. He first reached widespread attention in 1971 with the breakthrough single "Da Hofer," after which he issued more than 30 albums across the following three decades. "Schifoan" stands as his most enduring track, one that grew closely identified with skiing throughout Austria. Ambros kept issuing records and performing concerts well into the early 2000s.
