Biography
Zingara’s R&B ballad single “Love’s Calling” was helmed by Motown alumnus Lamont Dozier and spotlighted lead vocals from James Ingram. The Los Angeles-based quartet comprised guitarist/singer Wali Ali, violinist Karen Coleman, drummer Minor Williams, and bassist Rick Jones, the latter of whom also appeared on Carl Carlton’s 1981 gold LP Carl Carlton, which listed the million-selling single “She’s a Bad Mama Jama.” Issued through the independently distributed Wheel label, the track climbed to number 29 on the R&B chart in late 1980. Dozier likewise oversaw the group’s self-titled LP, released in June 1981.
