Adam Sandler, an American comedian, actor, and musician, first rose to prominence through his role in the cast of Saturday Night Live. This breakthrough led to his status as one of the leading comedy figures of the late 1990s, thanks to starring roles in Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, and Big Daddy. During the early years of the following decade, he sustained his widespread appeal through romantic comedies and occasional dramatic performances in titles like 50 First Dates, Click, and Spanglish. A period of diminished critical favor in the late 2000s gave way to renewed success with the animated Hotel Transylvania series throughout the 2010s. Beyond performing, Sandler established and leads Happy Madison Productions. As a recording artist, his initial albums, They're All Gonna Laugh at You! from 1993 and What the Hell Happened to Me? from 1996, achieved multi-platinum status, and his seasonal tracks "The Thanksgiving Song" and "The Chanukah Song" continue as popular holiday standards.

Born on September 9, 1966, in Brooklyn, Adam Sandler grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. His entry into comedy began at age 17 when his brother challenged him to perform at an amateur night in a Boston comedy venue, where his strong showing exceeded expectations. Although this experience sparked his interest in a professional path, Sandler first pursued studies at NYU and earned a Fine Arts degree in 1989. Shortly thereafter, he joined the NBC sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live, where he emerged as one of its standout performers over the course of five years.

Warner Brothers offered Sandler a recording deal in 1993, resulting in the release of his debut album, They're All Gonna Laugh at You!, that September. Featuring "The Thanksgiving Song," the record gained traction on college radio stations, achieved strong sales, secured platinum certification, and earned a Grammy nomination. His film career took off the next year with supporting parts in Mixed Nuts and Coneheads, followed by his debut lead role in 1995's Billy Madison. Capitalizing on momentum from both mediums, Sandler put out his second comedy album, What the Hell Happened to Me?, in early 1996. The seasonal success "The Chanukah Song" propelled it into the Top 20, and the project ultimately attained platinum status. He followed with a rapid third release, What's Your Name?, the subsequent year.

Having become one of America's premier comedic talents, Sandler delivered several late-1990s hits such as Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Big Daddy, prior to issuing his fourth album, Stan and Judy's Kid, in 1999. Following the 2000 comedy Little Nicky, he experimented with dramatic parts in Punch Drunk Love and Click, romantic comedies including 50 First Dates and Spanglish, and voice work in Eight Crazy Nights. Critical responses varied while commercial performance proved inconsistent. On the music side, his fifth album, Shhh...Don't Tell, released in 2004, generated minimal attention.

Entering the 2010s, Sandler positioned himself as a veteran comedian through successful ensemble projects like Grown Ups in 2010 and its 2013 follow-up Grown Ups 2, along with the popular Hotel Transylvania animated franchise spanning 2012 to 2018. He earned praise for his performance in the 2017 dramedy The Meyerowitz Stories, which received awards recognition.
