Ajoy Chakrabarty

Ajoy Chakrabarty entered the world in Calcutta during 1953 and ranks among the leading classical vocalists in contemporary times. He draws his vocal approach from the tutelage of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, who stands as the foremost exponent of the Patiala gharana. Starting in 1969, his studies proceeded under the guidance of Munawar Ali Khan, the offspring of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, and these instructions continue to inform his performances effectively. In addition, Chakrabarty has committed to recordings of both regional and devotional musical traditions.
