Biography
Pandit Jasraj came into the world in 1930 in Hissar (Haryana) and ranks among the most celebrated exponents of classical vocal music. Membership in the Mewati gharana connects him to the same lineage once followed by his father, Pandit Motiram. Listeners often find special pleasure in the way his performances illuminate unexpected facets of the tradition. Extensive recording activity has marked his career, above all from the late '80s onward, with leading specialists in Indian classical repertoire such as Chhanda Dhara, EMI India, Magnasound/OMI, Moment and Navras.
