Al Campbell

The West African Rhythm Brothers came into existence in 1946 with vocalist Al Campbell serving as its leader. Long regarded as one of Nigeria’s finest highlife groups, the ensemble eventually laid down more than fifty albums. Campbell’s own first album, titled Highlife Today, reached the public in 1968. As a solo performer he remains identified above all with the classic single “No More Running.” In addition he has performed alongside, composed for, or produced recordings by Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor, Dennis Brown, the Mighty Diamonds, and Sly & Robbie. The Live and Learn label, operated by Ras Records, issued Natty Too Tall, which contains the selections Forward Natty and Fence Too Tall.
