Biography
Alan Barnes entered the world in Cheshire during 1959. His formal training took place at Leeds College of Music, where he mastered the alto and baritone saxophones along with clarinet. Once he completed his studies in 1980, he formed and directed multiple ensembles, one of them being the Pizza Express Modern Jazz Sextet, while also laying down tracks alongside Dave Newton, Tony Coe, Ken Peplowski, and Warren Vache. Throughout the 1990s Barnes claimed dominance in the saxophone and clarinet category at the British jazz awards and continues to appear at prominent international jazz festivals. He has devoted additional years to instruction.
