Biography
An Italian jazz percussionist named Alessandro Fabbri first engaged with big-band music in 1976 while studying percussion under Gianni and Vittorio Ferrari. At age 21 he contributed to the Verabra Records compilation European Young Jazz Artists. That project preceded the 1984 release Streams, recorded during his tenure with the Tiziana Ghiglioni sextet. Throughout the 1980s Fabbri began composing and arranging for established musicians such as Massimo Urbani, Kenny Wheeler, and Steve Grossman. Simultaneously he refined his technique by studying with Frank Malabe and Peter Zeldman at Drummers Collective in New York City. In the 1990s he produced multiple instructional pieces that appeared in the Italian magazine Percussion. Fabbri secured first prize at the International Barga Jazz Festival in 1998.
