Norwegian multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Alexander von Mehren entered the world in 1984 and spent his childhood immersed in classical piano training. Songwriting and exploration of additional instruments occupied him once he reached his teens. During his time as a student in a second-language linguistics program at the University of Bergen, he initiated the project that grew into his first album, Aéropop. Although certain tracks originated as far back as 2001, when he was only 16, the painstaking sessions that shaped the record ran from 2005 through 2012 and drew input from musicians associated with Orwell, Jaga Jazzist, and the High Llamas. While shaping the airy, orchestrated pop of the album—an effort steeped in the sound of 1960s and 1970s library music—he also supplied arrangements and session work for associates including Chris Joss, Young Dreams, and Sondre Lerche. The finished Aéropop reached international audiences in 2013. Following a demanding period in which he produced O. Martin's Silence Fiction and contributed instrumental performances to Sondre Lerche's Please, von Mehren issued Aéropop Revisited, an EP containing reinterpretations of material drawn from releases by Orwell and Stereolab members.
