Alice Boman shapes understated, wistful sound worlds through restrained lo-fi production. Music first emerged from her in 2013, and her debut full-length arrived as the heavily reverberant Dream On in 2020. On the more expansive yet still close-knit successor The Space Between, released in 2022, she added touches of accordion, muted brass, and music-box sonorities.

Born in Malmö, Sweden, Boman absorbed her parents’ vinyl holdings—Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, and Joni Mitchell—while accompanying herself at the piano as her father played guitar. Later she enrolled in music classes, started a band with friends, and rehearsed by working through Paul and Linda McCartney’s Ram. Songwriting began in earnest once she left home in her late teens. While studying ceramics on Öland she performed her material for fellow students in the campus dining hall and took part in open-mike nights. A first batch of demos mailed to a Malmö studio in hopes of securing recording time instead reached Adrian Recordings, which issued the material as the EP Skisser in 2013. EP II followed in 2014. After the 2017 standalone track “Dreams,” she maintained a low profile, contributing to soundtracks such as 13 Reasons Why and Suits while completing her first album.

Play It Again Sam released Dream On in early 2020. Critical response was positive, yet pandemic restrictions forced the cancellation of planned live dates. Attempts to write new material yielded little until a late-2021 jam with drummer Nils Törnqvist restored momentum. The resulting album The Space Between was tracked in a single week alongside Dream On collaborator Patrik Berger (Robyn, Lana Del Rey) and appeared on Play It Again Sam in October 2022, featuring Perfume Genius on the single “Feels Like a Dream.”
