Biography
Born in Kharkov, Ukraine, Alina Simone grew up in the Boston suburbs before earning her degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She headed next to Austin, where she began busking on street corners, then relocated to New York City to play club dates. During 2004 she performed both with the group Emma La Reina and on her own, after which she spent six months in Siberia immersed in her Russian roots. Upon her return to the United States she issued the debut EP Prettier in the Dark through Fractured Discs on April 19, 2005. 54º 40' or Fight! Records later enlisted her for the full-length album Placelessness, which appeared on August 14, 2007.
