With a sonic range spanning dynamic folk-pop, grounded rock, and atmospheric Americana, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Amilia K Spicer conveys both restless movement and rooted location. Born in Pennsylvania, she took up piano early, yet an initial pursuit of film directing first pulled her toward California. Music gradually asserted itself by the mid-'90s, prompting her to carve out a presence on the L.A. club circuit. A mainstage appearance at Texas’s Kerrville Folk Festival accelerated her progress, leading to the 2000 release of her debut album, Like an Engine. In the ensuing years she maintained a demanding tour schedule across the United States and Europe, issued her follow-up, Seamless, in 2002, and placed songs on Dawson’s Creek and Party of Five. Her evolving style blended introspective piano pop with ’70s singer/songwriter traditions while shifting toward dustier Americana textures, pairing pedal steel and acoustic guitar with her smoky vocals.

Over the next fifteen years, an ongoing urge to travel took her across continents; she split time between Austin and Los Angeles, contributed to tribute collections honoring Neil Young and Peter Case, and worked as a session vocalist and arranger. A collection of refined, poetic material eventually coalesced, prompting her to begin recording a long-delayed third album on which she played not only piano but guitar, banjo, and assorted other instruments. Joined by seasoned session players—pedal steel guitarist Eric Heywood (Son Volt), guitarist Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams), and bassist Daryl Johnson (Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones)—she completed the 2017 album Wow & Flutter, her most earthbound and organically realized work to date.
