Biography
Alasdair MacLean of the Clientele teamed with Spanish vocalist and instrumentalist Lupe Núñez-Fernández from the indie pop duo Pipas to launch Amor de Dias—whose name means “love of days”—in 2009. The pair had already started gathering the project in secret during evenings and weekends the previous year. A roster of veteran musicians that included Louis Philippe, Damon & Naomi, and Gary Olson helped them spend the next three years shaping their Merge debut, Street of the Love of Days, a breezy fusion of tropicalia, English chamber pop, and psychedelic folk issued in spring 2011. Their second album took shape far more rapidly, completed in nine days with producer Brian O'Shaughnessy and assistance from the Clientele's bassist James Hornsey and drummer Howard Monk. Merge released the resulting record, The House at Sea, in early 2013.
