Andy and the Odd Socks emerged from the imagination of longtime British children's television host Andy Day, establishing their identity through an eccentric blend of energetic tracks, uplifting themes, and playful wit that surfaced on the 2020 release Who's in the Odd Socks?.

The project took shape in 2017 when BBC veteran presenter Andy Day assembled his supporting ensemble the Odd Socks, featuring drummer Moxy (Holly Mallett), guitarist Rio (Marcelo Cervone), and keyboardist Cousin Mac (Stewart McCheyne), with the explicit aim of fostering diversity and self-assurance among young listeners via song. Soon after their launch, Emily Eavis extended an invitation for the group to appear at Glastonbury, where their lively combination of upbeat numbers and accessible comedy attracted large audiences. During that same 2017 period the outfit issued its first full-length recording, Who Invited This Lot?, while simultaneously leading an awareness drive on behalf of the British charity Anti-Bullying Alliance. Not until 2020 did Day and his colleagues reappear, this time fronting the CBBC series Andy and the Band, which reinforced their core themes of acceptance and kindness. Later that year the follow-up album Who's in the Odd Socks? arrived.
